Nigerian singer, Adedamola Adefolahan, aka Fireboy DML, has claimed that the Afrobeats scene earlier than his emergence was simply “vibes” and lacked “pure soul and lyricism.”

Talking in a current interview with BET, Fireboy defined that he created his personal sub-genre of Afrobeats as a result of he knew his sound was “completely different.”

He argued that his style, in contrast to mainstream Afrobeats, has “some depth.”

He mentioned, “The Afrobeats scene earlier than I got here in. It was constructed on vibes. However I spotted that there was one thing missing, and that was pure soul and lyricism in our music. That was what I introduced into the sport. That’s why I name it Afro-Life — it’s Afrobeats that has some depth to it.”

Fireboy mentioned listening to artists like Elton John, James Blunt, Celine Dion, Wande Coal and 2Baba whereas rising up impressed the type of music he makes.
