Kidnapping school children now lucrative business, causing problems in north – Shehu Sani

Former lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, on Friday, described the kidnapping of college youngsters by terrorists in northern Nigeria as a profitable enterprise, lamenting the issues it has created to the tutorial sector within the area.

Sani stated kidnappers use it to blackmail authorities into paying big ransom, including that kidnappers know it would evoke public sympathy for the pupils as stress can be mounted on the federal government to bow to their calls for.

reporter reported that terrorists, on Thursday morning, stormed LGEA Main College, Kuriga (1), Chikun Native Authorities Space of Kaduna State and kidnapped about 285 pupils and academics.

reporter gathered that the incident occurred at about 8:20 am instantly after the morning meeting.

Sani stated many mother and father in rural areas will now be afraid to permit their youngsters to go to highschool, pointing that the event is a major problem for primary schooling in northern Nigeria.

He stated: “The kidnapping of college youngsters by terrorists in Northern Nigeria is a profitable enterprise. They use it to blackmail authorities for big cost of ransom.

“They know that it’s going to evoke public sympathy for the pupils and stress can be mounted on the federal government to bow to their calls for. Many mother and father in rural areas are actually afraid of permitting their youngsters to go to highschool. This can be a major problem for primary schooling in Northern Nigeria.

“Although this tragic incident occurred, there’s a vital drop within the incidence of such assaults on faculties in comparison with its frequency beneath the final administration.”
