Armed males suspected to be Fulani herders have destroyed yam seedlings and cassava farms price hundreds of thousands of Naira in Chembe village, Gaambetiev, Brand Native Authorities space of Benue State.

It was gathered that the village had recorded a sequence of assaults by herders up to now ten years, forcing residents out of the settlement.

The vast majority of the villagers now stay in Internally Displaced Individuals camps in Anyiin.

Regardless of the hurdles of residing in an IDP camp, the villagers nonetheless return to the farm between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm each day.

The proprietor of the destroyed yam seedlings and cassava farm, Eric Chembe, instructed The Nation that the farm was greater than half a hectare.

He mentioned, “I acquired a name from one in all my elder brother’s wives that my yam seedlings and cassava farm of greater than half a hectare was fully consumed by suspected herdsmen who grazed on my farms with their cattle late into the evening.

“As a household man who relies upon largely on my farm produce for survival and due to the cruel financial system, I want no soothsayers to inform me that troubles have immediately doubled.”

Chembe estimated the worth of the destroyed yam seedlings and cassava to be over N50 million.
