The 287 abducted students of LEA Primary School Kuriga and their secondary school counterparts are still in captivity 15 days after the bandits’ invasion.
Daily Trust reported on March 7, 2024, that the abducted students, including boys, girls and the principal of the junior secondary school, Abubakar Isah, were taken away from Kuriga town, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The incident, which happened around 7:47am immediately after the assembly briefing, caused uproar across the country.
Despite promises made by the state governor, Senator Uba Sani, and the federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that the children will be rescued from their abductors, there has been no news about the whereabouts of the children.
The abductors were reported to have called demanding N1bn from the family to release the children.
But President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ruled out the possibility of ransom payment, urging the military and other security agencies to do whatever it takes to rescue the children.
A family member of the abducted children, Aminu Kuriga, said the whole community is still grieving over the incident as days go by without any positive news about the whereabouts of the children.
Another resident whose two siblings were among the abducted students, Nasiru Yau, said the parents of the victims are worried that the children are still in the forest.
