Bauchi State government has rewarded the Daben Kasuwa community in Ganjuwa LGA with 200 bags of rice and millet for preventing the looting of a fallen trailer loaded with grains in the village.

The move comes after a trending video on social media showing a truck carrying foodstuff, which fell off the road in the village and people vigilantly guarded the truck to avoid looting.

Speaking during the presentation of the bags of rice, Governor Bala Muhammad, who was represented by the Commissioner of Culture and Tourism, Abdu Hassan, said the state government was proud of the Daben Kasuwa community for the selfless act, especially with the trend where residents of multiple Nigerian cities have resorted to mass looting of food warehouses and food trucks in recent days over hunger and anger on the rising food prices.

The governor commended the people of Daben Kasuwa, especially the youth for writing the name of the LGA and the state with a golden ink.

Receiving the foodstuff, Sarkin Daben Kasuwa Malam Sanusi Sale, thanked the governor for the gesture, saying that the community has a record of zero-crime where people live in peace with one another.

The village head used the medium to call on the government to provide the community with basic amenities such as potable water, secondary school, electricity, and healthcare facilities.
