The Peoples Democratic Party and its 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, have urged Nigerians to embrace the spirit of Easter by demonstrating love and pursuing national renewal, drawing inspiration from the sacrificial virtues exemplified by the life of Jesus Christ.

The PDP, in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, to mark Easter, on Saturday encouraged Nigerians not to let the current hardships, insecurity, and uncertainties diminish their faith and hope for a brighter future.

The statement read, “Indeed, the coming of Easter, the celebration of the triumph of life over death serves as divine reassurance of the saving grace of God in the gift of Salvation to mankind and His willingness to bring succour in any adverse situation.

“Our party urges Nigerians to reinforce the bond of unity and love by sharing with and supporting one another as this is the only way the nation can survive this perilous time.

“We also call on leaders at all levels and spheres to renew the virtue of selfless service by directing their energies principally towards the wellbeing and happiness of the people.”

The PDP called on the Federal Government to swiftly tackle the soaring prices of food, fuel, and other essential goods.

It added, “Against this backdrop, the PDP urges the Federal Government to take immediate action to address the high cost of food, petroleum products, other essential commodities and services so as to alleviate the suffering in the country.”

In the same vein, Atiku, in a statement released by his Media Office in Abuja on Saturday, described love and sacrifice, which characterized the life of Jesus Christ, as essential for Nigeria’s unity.

He stated, “This Easter, we join our Christian brothers and sisters in Nigeria and across the world to celebrate the essence of the festivities. This commemoration is a time for deep reflection as it marks the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. It is a time to reach out to our brothers and sisters in need.

“It is also a time for all of us — regardless of faith, or ethnicity — to come together to pray for the peace of our nation. We must all remain constant in our efforts to promote unity.”

The former vice president voiced his confidence that Nigeria will prevail and conquer its national obstacles.

The statement read in part, “Our shared experiences are bringing us to the conclusion that no matter what the forces of evil can do, when we are united in good conduct, we shall prevail,” Atiku said.

“The Waziri Adamawa also encouraged Nigeria’s leaders to use the opportunity of the Christian celebration of Easter to reflect on their stewardship to the people and to the nation.

“Our leaders at all levels should follow the virtues that define this season – sacrifice, love, and charity – and come together to help all Nigerians resolve the differences that divide us.”
