The Alliance for Credible Legislative Conducts (ACLC) has called on the National Assembly to investigate the National Steel Council (NSC) for allegedly disregarding President Bola Tinubu’s directive to dissolve the boards of federal government agencies and parastatals.

President Tinubu had 10 months ago approved the immediate dissolution of the governing boards of the federal government agencies in the exercise of its constitutional powers. However, the group said its findings showed that the steel council has not complied with the directive.

During a press conference in Abuja yesterday, ACLC’s chairman, Comrade Afuye Shola, expressed concern over the NSC’s failure to dissolve its board despite the presidential directive.

The group urged relevant committees in the National Assembly overseeing the Ministry of Steel Development to initiate an urgent probe into the matter.

Shola warned that if the National Assembly fails to act, ACLC will mobilise its members nationwide for a massive protest to draw the president’s attention to the NSC’s non-compliance with the directive.

He also called on the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume and the Minister of Steel Development, Shuaibu Audu, to ensure that the NSC respects the lawful directive.

The ACLC condemned what it sees as a deliberate violation of statutory laws by the NSC and urged the SGF to enforce the presidential orders on boards without exception.

The group also highlighted instances of alleged financial irregularities within the NSC, including approvals for expenditures that did not follow standard procedures.

ACLC, therefore, called for accountability and adherence to presidential directives within government agencies and parastatals, particularly focusing on the NSC’s actions in this case.
