The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has denounced the attack on Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA) personnel allegedly by officers from the Zone F Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

He said he would communicate with the state’s attorney general to take action against those responsible for the assault, emphasising his commitment to prosecuting them and ensuring justice was served.

Governor Makinde expressed firm disapproval of such unruly conduct, declaring that the unacceptable behaviour would not be tolerated in Oyo State.

He made the remarks during a visit to the state command of the immigration service in Agodi, Ibadan, on April 8, where he also called for better cooperation and collaboration between different agencies, stressing that federal agency status did not grant superiority over state counterparts.

He said, “Just because you work for a federal agency doesn’t mean you’re above the law. These individuals were simply carrying out their duties to enforce state laws. We are taking this matter seriously, and we will pursue legal action against those involved. This behaviour is unacceptable in Oyo State.”

Makinde also visited the assaulted OYRTMA officers, Nurudeen Abiola and Taiwo Adeagbo, and assured them of his commitment to prosecuting the perpetrators and ensuring justice prevailed.

It was learnt that immigration personnel from Zone F reportedly assaulted the OYRTMA officials who stopped and arrested some immigration officers for driving against traffic on the Onipepeye Bridge Underpass on Old Ife Road, Ibadan.
