Former Kaduna state governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, says leadership is Nigeria’s major problem.
El-Rufai said this in his speech at Capacity-Enhancement Workshop for Senior Government Officials of Borno State.
The programme, which had as its theme: “Enhancing Skills of Government Officials in Policy Implementation and Productive Human Resource Management”, held in Maiduguri, the state capital, on Monday.
Mallam Nasiru el-Rufai, who was lead presenter at the workshop said only visited Kaduna State five since he left almost a year ago because he doesn’t like to criticize leaders wether past or current.
“What we lack is good leadership, the majors aspects of good quality of leadership.
“The leader should get good people to get the job done. Only God can do everything by himself, no matter how good you are as a leader, you can be as effective as people around you and that’s why the saying that no country get better than the quality of his civil service.
“We can see that in Nigeria, we only one problem in Nigeria, it is not food, hunger, exchange rates, not fuel subsidy removal but it is leadership deficit,” he said.
El-Rufai said he felt gratified with what he had seen in Maiduguri and some other parts of Borno, saying the places got better despite the decade-long Boko Haram insurgency.”
