The federal government in collaboration with the Partnership for Eradication of Cancer in Africa (PECA) yesterday introduced OncoSeek, a medical test that can detect nine types of cancer early.

The test was unveiled during the stakeholders’ awareness and sensitisation meeting organised in collaboration with Inspire2live in Abuja.

President of PECA, Benjamin Ogbalor, said OncoSeek is a multi-cancer early detection product and software algorithm based on a blood sample, adding that it significantly outperforms the conventional clinical method, representing a novel blood-based test that is non-invasive, easy, efficient, and robust.

He said arrangements were in top gear for the test to be able to detect two additional cancers; cervical and prostate, in the next few months.

He said that the OncoSeek multi-cancer early detection algorithm offers hope for millions of Nigerians to detect 9-11 cancers early and to increase the chance of preventing these cancers and treating them successfully.

Coordinating Minister of Health, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, said the introduction of OncoSeek would expand the screening methods for cancer in the country.
