The $5 billion in Abacha loot that was recovered by the administrations of Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan, and Muhammadu Buhari must now be disclosed, according to an order from the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The government of President Bola Tinubu was ordered by the court to reveal how much money General Sani Abacha stole from Nigeria.
Additionally, it stated that the public should be informed of the total amount of Abacha loot recovered and all agreements made by the administrations of former presidents Obasanjo, Yar’Adua, Jonathan, and Buhari.
Following a Freedom of Information lawsuit brought by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), Justice James Kolawole Omotosho rendered this decision.
“In the final analysis, the application by SERAP is meritorious,” Justice Omotosho said in reading the ruling. “The Federal Government through the Ministry of Finance is hereby ordered to furnish SERAP with the full spending details of approximately $5 billion Abacha loot within seven days of this judgement.”
