The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has debunked reports that Union St Gilloise forward, Victor Boniface snubbed its invite for the doubleheader 2023 Africa cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau.
Recall that some media reported that Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro invited the inform striker for the match but the 22-year-old stayed away from the Eagles for the qualifiers because he wasn’t sent his flight ticket accompanying for the trip to Nigeria and back to Belgium.
But the NFF on Thursday said it didn’t invite the USG striker for the AFCON qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau as claimed. The football body clarified that Boniface was on the provisional list but didn’t make the final list, hence wasn’t sent a flight ticket.
“By way of clarification, Victor Boniface was not invited for the Super Eagles’ AFCON Qualifiers against Guinea Bissau. He was on the provisional list but didn’t make the final list, and therefore was not sent a flight ticket,” NFF wrote in a tweet.
The Super Eagles fell to a 1-0 defeat in the first leg of the qualifiers, and narrowly pipped the Djurtus in the second leg in Bissau courtesy of Moses Simon’s spot kick.
The three-time African champions will take on Sierra Leone and Sao Tome & Principe in their AFCON qualifier campaign in the next international window.
