Prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) member Ambassador Abayomi Nurain Mumuni has supported President Bola Tinubu’s decision to suspend Dr. Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

In the 2011 Lagos State elections, Mumuni, the now-defunct Congress of Progressive Change (CPC) candidate for governor, pleaded with Nigerians to allow the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to carry out its investigation into the suspended minister’s alleged N583 million transfer into a private account.

In a statement made public by his media assistant, Rasheed Abubakar, Mumuni emphasized the need to exercise prudence when discussing the President’s actions in order to protect the interests of the country.
Acknowledging Dr. Betta Edu’s promising contributions to the administration, Mumuni noted that Tinubu’s appointment of a female and youth to head the ministry was commendable.

He called on Nigerians to refrain from acting as judges and allow the EFCC to carry out its duties.

Mumuni stated, “President Tinubu has done the right thing by appointing a female to head the ministry and he should be praised for suspending her over the allegation of diverting public money into a private account.
“Aside from the allegation, she has been one of the promising Ministers in this administration, it is just unfortunate she found herself in this mess. Like the popular saying, evil communication corrupts good manners.

“Nigerians should not turn themselves to judges but rather allow EFCC to do its job and leave Tinubu alone to concentrate on delivering dividends of democracy to Nigerians.”

Stressing the importance of collective efforts for good governance, Mumuni urged citizens to remain calm and work together to eliminate corruption within the government.
He also acknowledged the pervasive problem of corruption in Nigeria but voiced hope that the country would overcome these obstacles with the help of its citizens.

He declared, “We need maintain our composure and keep cooperating as a country to support effective governance. We should also urge the President to get rid of any corruption in his administration.

Nigerians ought to realize that corruption is more akin to a regalia that, despite numerous washings, would eventually desire to reappear; the decaying components within the system will just take time to remove.

“We acknowledge that Nigeria has been perpetuating corrupt systems for many years without making any pretenses, but with the people’s support, better times are undoubtedly ahead.”
