Olukayode Doherty, the candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the Lagos State House of Assembly Amuwo-Odofin II Constituency election, has been dismissed by the Court of Appeal.

The court maintained a previous decision made by the Election Petition Tribunal, which had dismissed Doherty and pronounced Rauf Age-Suleiman, the candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), the election’s victor.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was mandated by the tribunal to hand over Sulaiman’s certificate of return as the election’s victor.

The court ruled that if a candidate did not fully engage in the election process, they are not eligible to be declared the winner under the Electoral Act of 2022.
