Lawyers in the Kano State gubernatorial election lawsuit have reportedly been asked by the Court of Appeal to return the Certified True Copy of its ruling so that it might be corrected.
The newest event follows the issuance of a certified true copy of the ruling by the court, which seemed to support the appellant, Governor Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP).
A recent development indicates that the court ordered the All Progressives Congress (APC) to pay Governor Yusuf N1 million, with the ruling favoring the NNPC candidate. The initial ruling, delivered on November 17, upheld the ruling of the Kano Governorship Election Tribunal, which resulted in Governor Yusuf’s dismissal.
Professor of law and former head of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, voiced concern about the court’s inconsistent ruling and questioned the fairness of the legal system in Nigeria.

People are curious as to how we can assert that Nigeria’s judiciary is crooked. In the Kano gubernatorial case, the Court of Appeal has decided all questions “in favour of the appellant & against the 1st Respondent.” Take a look. However, it determined that the appeal was without merit and may be rejected. Clarify! On X (previously Twitter), Odinkalu said.
A further development is that, according to reports, the court has now asked the attorneys for both parties to return the ruling for “correction.” The court appears to be trying to revise the ruling after the fact, as Odinkalu argues that this action is not covered by the Slip Rule.
On the face of the record, Odinkalu declared, “This is judicial corruption.”
After declaring that Governor Yusuf’s candidacy violated the electoral law, the Kano Governorship Election Petition Tribunal first dismissed him in September.
