The Nigerian Army claimed to have discovered illicit oil bunker sites in the states of Imo and Delta and to have stopped boats and vehicles carrying illegal oil products.
The Nigerian Army announced this in a message released on their X (previously Twitter) profile on Wednesday and signed by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director Army Public Relations.

“Troops of 343 Artillery Regiment conducting anti-oil theft operations on Monday, August 28, 2023 clamped down on an oil thieves’ camp in Obokofia community, Imo State,” the statement’s partial text said. In the crackdown, the watchful troops discovered 13 Jerrycans and 15 bags of illegally processed automotive gas oil (AGO) hidden in the camp.

At Enokora Community in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, three cooking ovens and six reservoirs were part of an operational illicit oil refining plant that was subject to a similar operation that was also carried out on August 28, 2023.

On August 29, 2023, troops engaged in anti-oil theft operations discovered a wooden boat hidden in the creeks of Egbema West in the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State carrying 110 sacks of illegally processed AGO.Within the same general location, the watchful troops simultaneously stopped two cars carrying 18 bags of illegally produced AGO.
