To relieve the congestion in Apapa and Tin Can, the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced on Tuesday that the state had received approval for the construction of a port in Badagry.
The governor expressed optimism that, with the help of investors, the Badagry port would be completed “in about two years.”
Sanwo-Olu revealed this to a delegation from the NCS and the acting Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Adewale Adeniyi, who paid him a courtesy visit on Tuesday at the Lagos House, Marina.
The governor emphasised that the state government had resolved to build more ports in the state and expressed his joy that the Lekki Deep Seaport had gradually started to operate after its inauguration a few months earlier.
“In order to find ways to construct more new ports, we have been acting more pro-actively.

“I need to let you know that a Badagry port has also been approved, I’m sorry. The goal is to develop strategic infrastructure for our people.
Lekki is in the east, and Badagry is in the west, “so that we can decongest Apapa and Tin Can, which have already stretched their capacities to the limit of what is necessary.”
The acting NCS CG had earlier expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government for providing a supportive environment for the agency’s operations and promised that Customs would uphold the law.
