Popular Nigerian Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka has raised worries over the safety of the former minister of electricity and steel, Olu Agunloye in Kuje prison.

According to reports, Agunloye was charged with fraud by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at an Abuja High Court on Wednesday.

The court mandated Agunloye’s incarceration on remand.

In a statement released on Wednesday in response to the development, Soyinka’s spokesperson, Jahman Anikulapo, noted that the late Bola Ige was killed in his bedroom and mentioned that the perpetrators had not yet been apprehended.

He stated Agunloye, a critical witness in Ige’s case, may be killed in jail.

We have learned that Dr. Olu Agunloye was eventually charged in court today. The sitting judge wisely decided to remand the accused after adjourning the case.

“I would like to notify the country and the government of the legitimate and serious worry for Agunloye’s safety.

“I have stated unequivocally that the Mambilla scheme had something to do with Bola Ige’s death. Olu Agunloye and I collaborated closely to identify Ige’s murders both inside and outside of regular police operations.

Therefore, suggesting that there aren’t any forces strong enough to condemn Agunloye to the same destiny as Bola Ige would be unforgivable complacency.

“Let it be understood that the inference will be heard loud, clear, and unambiguous if anything happens to this pivotal witness while in custody,” Soyinka issued a warning.
