As part of further attempts to fight insurgency, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has declared an immediate ban on the sale of gasoline in the Bama Local Government Area, which includes Bama town and the nearby hamlet of Banki.

The decision, which aims to cut off supplies to Boko Haram militants operating in the area, was issued after discussions with security authorities.
Malam Dauda Iliya, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, made the announcement in a statement issued in Maiduguri on Saturday.

“With immediate effect, I have ordered that the sale of gasoline be prohibited in Bama town, Banki, and other areas of the Bama Local Government Area,” Governor Zulum said.

He cautioned against any attempts to disobey the order and underlined that the ban will be severely implemented.

“I want to be clear that this restriction will not be enforced with any sacred cows.

“Strict directives have been issued to security authorities to crack down on any filling station or person who disobeys this command. “Anyone found guilty will face the appropriate consequences,” he said.

The governor’s most recent action coincides with the state’s growing security worries.

Zulum expressed concern over a resumption of Boko Haram strikes last month, revealing that the rebels had taken control of some military installations in the state.
