Niger Republic of Niamey Sylvain Itte, the French ambassador, has 48 hours to depart the country, according to the leader of the Niger Republic’s coup. Reuters reports that on Friday, August 25, the foreign ministry made this information public.
Itte’s refusal to accept a meeting invitation from the Nigeran minister of foreign affairs, according to the statement, was a factor in the decision. It went on to imply that additional French government acts were also detrimental to Niger’s interests without going into greater detail. France has asked President Mohamed Bazoum be restored as the head of the Niger Republic following the historic coup on July 26.
A request for comment on Friday was not immediately responded to by the French foreign ministry.

According to reports, the African Union suspended the Republic of Niger after Gen. Abdourahamane Tchiani’s coup on Wednesday, July 26. The suspension is just one of many sanctions put in place for the nation of francophone West Africa.
Two countries and Niger collaborate militarily. The military juntas in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger are working together. According to DW, President Mohamed Bazoum was overthrown by the junta and imprisoned by General Abdourahamane Tiani, a former commander of the brigade guard.
