The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been forbidden by the Federal High Court in Abuja from suspending or ejecting Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and PDP State Executive Committee members in the State over alleged anti-party activities.
In his ruling, Justice Inyang Ekwo stated that Wike and other PDP members’ fears were justified and that suspending or expelling them would violate their rights to freedom of association.

As a result, the judge declared that the court could grant redress to individuals whose actions are well known to constitute an infringement of their rights.
The judge ruled that political party members cannot be arbitrarily suspended for failing to follow party rules.
In the general elections of 2023, Governor Wike and the G5, a group of four other PDP governors, had openly campaigned against Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate.
