The appeal claiming that the prerequisite for presidential candidates to be proclaimed the election’s victor is that they must secure 25% of the votes cast in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has been rejected by the Presidential Election appeal Tribunal sitting in Abuja.

According to reports, Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani, the tribunal’s chairman, declared in a decision on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has no special status and is on par with all other states in Nigeria.

The decision was reached in response to a plea that President Bola Tinubu’s election was contested by the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi. Due to the fact that Tinubu received less than 25% of the votes cast in the FCT, Obi has suggested that Tinubu should be stripped of the presidency.
