Former Deputy Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly Yusuf Gagdi has declared his intention to run for Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives.
The announcement was made at the unveiling of his manifesto and a compilation of his achievements in the 9th National Assembly in Abuja, according to reports.
Gagdi has promised to lead a transparent House of Representatives and is actively seeking the support of elected lawmakers from across the country, including from other political parties.
The 42-year-old lawmaker from Plateau State’s Panskhin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency believes he is qualified to lead the 10th House of Representatives.

The declaration comes ahead of the 10th National Assembly’s inauguration in June, and several elected federal lawmakers, as well as Gagdi’s friends and relatives, were present to support his ambition. Gagdi sponsored six private member bills in the 9th National Assembly, which were signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Gagdi has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership and President-elect Bola Tinubu to allow lawmakers to choose their leaders. He is adamant about achieving his goal and is actively courting elected lawmakers from other political parties.
He was elected to the Plateau State House of Assembly in 2015, where he served as Deputy Speaker, and he was elected to the House of Representatives in 2019.
