President Muhammadu Buhari praises the National Assembly for always carrying out his orders. Nigerians have dubbed the Lawan-led National Assembly a “rubber stamp” legislature. Many Nigerians believe the parliament is failing to fulfill its role as a check and balance system.
President Muhammadu Buhari has praised the National Assembly, which is led by Senator Ahmad Lawan, for always doing his bidding.
Mr Buhari made the remarks while accepting the report of the House of Representatives Security Summit, which took place in May.
Unlike the 8th assembly, which was led by Senator Bukola Saraki, the president said the 9th assembly has been very cooperative with the executive branch.
In a statement, the president’s media adviser, Femi Adesina, quoted Mr Buhari as saying, “Commending the 9th National Assembly for its cooperation with the Executive, he said he tried very hard to get the 8th Assembly to do the same for the sake of the country, and I didn’t succeed much.” But time has proven that I was correct.”
Nigerians have dubbed the Lawan-led National Assembly a “rubber stamp” parliament because of its willingness to support any proposal put forward by the executive.

Many Nigerians believe that the parliament, as the country’s second branch of government, is failing to fulfill its mandate of providing checks and balances on the executive branch’s powers.
Senate President Ahmad Lawan, on the other hand, has maintained that the National Assembly, led by him, will not oppose any action taken by the Buhari administration.
Despite Nigeria’s mounting debt, the National Assembly has continued to approve large loan requests for the Buhari administration. It has also failed to criticize Mr Buhari’s draconian policies and actions, such as the country’s recent Twitter ban.
