Copyright Infringement: Ghanaian rapper, Obrafuor sues Drake for $10m

A Ghanaian rap artist, Obrafuor has sued Canadian hip-hop mogul, Drake over alleged copyright infringement.

The suit was filed April 18, 2023, at the District Court of Southern District of New York.

Obrafour is suing Drake for sampling his song ‘Oye Ohene (Remix)’ in a song titled ‘Calling My Name’ on his 2022 album ‘Honestly, Nevermind’ without his consent.

According to the lawsuit’s specifics, Drake attempted to sample the music via email but was never given permission. He nevertheless decided to release the song from his album “Honestly, Nevermind.”

Obrafour is demanding for $10,000,000 (ten million dollars) compensation and other economic relief.

The song has generated millions of streams globally across digital platforms which translates into millions of dollars.
