Court docket remands BDC operators in Port Harcourt

A Justice of the Peace court docket sitting in Port Harcourt has remanded 16 Bureau De Change, BDC, operators within the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre for illegal banking enterprise.

This choice by Justice of the Peace Alatuwo Fubara on Wednesday follows an ex parte software submitted by the police, searching for extra time to conclude their investigation earlier than formally charging the people in query.

The police asserted that the actions of the BDC operators violate the Banks and different Monetary Establishments Act of 2020.

Fubara, after granting the police’s request, scheduled the matter for plea and potential bail consideration on March 7, 2024.

Sani Issaka, the Chairman of BDC operators in Port Harcourt, together with a number of others concerned within the operations, had beforehand said that over 150 members, together with himself, had been apprehended by operatives of the Financial and Monetary Crimes Fee, EFCC, in Rumuola, Obio-Akpor Native Authorities Space of Rivers State.
