Crisis as Wike storms gathering of PDP BoT

RIVERS State Governor Nyesom Wike today stormed the venue where members of the board of trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were meeting.

Wike’s strange appearance, observers say, might be connected to his feud with PDP national chairman Uche Secondus. Wike is reportedly plotting to remove Mr Secondus.

The governor’s appearance unsettled several of the members as governors are not part of the BoT.

Wike walked in when Secondus was delivering his opening address. Among those attending the meeting is former Senate President Bukola Saraki.

Already, seven members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) have resigned, citing Secondus’ alleged inept leadership.

Reacting to the incident, Secondus said a “strong” party chieftain was scheming to install a caretaker committee that will be doing his bidding. He accused the unnamed person of using public funds to fight him.

Secondus still enjoys support from some of the party’s top chieftains including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former national caretaker chairman and ex-governor Ahmed Makarfi, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, ex-Jigawa State governor Sule Lamido, ex-Niger State governor Babangida Aliyu among others.

Atiku visited Wike recently as he tried to push for peace in the party.
