Adewale Adeniyi, the Nigeria Customs Service’s interim comptroller general, has cautioned staff members to use tactic instead of force when interacting with the public.

This was stated by Adeniyi in a statement on Thursday at the official opening of a workshop to raise awareness of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023.

Workshops for assistant legal advisers and comptrollers were held in Abuja.

According to Adeniyi, the use of firearms should only be used in dire situations that call for self-defense.

We must never, under any circumstances, use firearms unless it is absolutely necessary, he commanded. We are responsible for safeguarding the people of this nation.

The Senate, meanwhile, urged the Federal Government on Thursday to use the N14.2 billion already appropriated in the 2023 budget to build the Nigerian Customs Academy in Bauchi State.

Additionally, it instructed its Committee on Customs, Excise, and Tariff to oversee the development and completion of the envisioned one-stop shop operational centre for the revenue-generating agency when it is constituted.
