On Wednesday, the acting chairman of the Labour Party, Lamidi Apapa, and the Director General of Peter Obi’s presidential campaign council, Akin Osuntokun, clashed at the Appeal Court.
Apapa and Osuntokun were seen arguing over a seat at the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPT) in Abuja in viral videos.
The Labour Party has been embroiled in a leadership battle, with Apapa appointed as acting chairman last week pending the outcome of the party’s leadership lawsuit by a federal high court.
Apapa directed the party’s lawyers at the Election Tribunal to report to him immediately after the ruling.
Apapa issued this directive on Friday, while also announcing that he is now in charge of the Labour Party after a court confirmed his position as acting chairman the same day.

He also directed the party’s legal representatives in the presidential election tribunal to meet with him within 48 hours in order to brief him.
“I am overjoyed that justice was served today because, under normal circumstances, we would have begun to doubt, but today, we are relieved that the judge acted broadly and reasonably,” Apapa said.
“I have no doubt that I am now in command.” The court has now confirmed that I have the right to be in charge until another order is issued.
“As of today, I am the acting chairman of the party, and anyone who parades himself other than myself is breaking the law.”
“I’d like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that the tribunal is still going on, and I’d like to invite all of the lawyers representing the Labour Party to come for a briefing.”
“They should come and give me an update on what is going on in that tribunal within the next 48 hours, because I am the one in charge right now.”
