The crisis rocking the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, over the conduct of Saturday’s governorship primary further escalated on Monday as angry youths took over the state secretariat of the party.
According to reports that three candidates emerged in the primary conducted by the party to nominate its flag bearer for the September 21, 2024 governorship election.
Dennis Idahosa, Senator Monday Okpebholo and Anamero Sunday Dekeri are all laying claim to the party’s ticket for the governorship poll, after emerging as candidates in parallel primaries.
The party youths, who stormed the secretariat, threatened to sack the State Working Committee of the party led by the acting chairman, Jarrett Tenebe.
The youths, who forced their way into the secretariat, brought out furniture, bags of rice and other equipment and vowed to stay at the building for seven days.
The youths led by Tony Adun, aka Kabaka, condemned the conduct of the party officials that supervised the primaries.
“We are protesting against the conduct of the officials at Saturday’s primary election of the party which threw up three winners,” Kabaka said.
He vowed that they would not leave the premises until the State Working Committee accept the candidacy of Honourable Dennis Idahosa.
When contacted, the Edo State Publicity Secretary of the party, Barrister Peter Uwadia said, “I am not in a position to react now. When I have the full details, I will react.”
