Despite objections from the All Progressives Congress (APC) demanding for an annulment of the Saturday election due to allegations of irregularities and significant rigging, Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has sworn in freshly elected chairmen of the 18 local government areas.
Obaseki, who expressed confidence in the “ability of the elected chairmen to collaborate with the state government to bring good governance to the people” during the swearing-in ceremony held in Benin City on Monday, claimed they had been carefully chosen by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and elected by the people.
He urged the new chairmen to concentrate on improving their communities and maintaining a clean environment while promising that his administration will build alternate routes in locations where the federal highways had deteriorated.

We are currently experiencing a crisis in our nation, and Edo is being particularly hit by this because of its central location and proximity to numerous federally controlled routes. It may take some time, if ever, for the Federal Government to be able to develop those roads because, as you are aware, it lacks the capacity to administer itself, let alone rebuild its highways.
We have other links, so working with the state government to develop and construct substitute state roads ought to be our top priority with you, he added.
