President Bola Tinubu has declared that candidates who were unable to accept defeat in the last general election do not deserve to experience the joy of victory if they win in subsequent elections.
The President, in his Democracy Day Nationwide Broadcast, acknowledged that the 2023 presidential election would be hotly contested, attributing the outcome to the country’s improving democracy.
According to Bola Tinubu, “the beauty of democracy is that those who win elections today can lose them tomorrow, and those who lose today will have an opportunity to compete and win in the next round.”

He emphasised that those who disagree with the election results are currently “taking full advantage of the constitutional provisions to seek redress in court, which is one of the reasons why democracy is still the best form of government invented by man.”
The President described the disappointment expressed by politicians who did not fare well in the February and March elections as natural.
