The family of Mr Akanbi Sunlola, a 65-year-old farmer, killed on his farm in Ilero, Kajola Local Government of Oyo State, has expressed its keenness on justice.
The decomposing body of Sulola was found on his farm in Gbokoyi village, four days after he left home on November 28, by hunters who had been mandated by the community to launch a search for him.
Sulola was found wrapped with a rope which was believed to have been used to drag him to death.
The farmer’s death came after he had had encounters with Fulani herdsmen accusing them of grazing over his maize farm.
Speaking with TheNigerian Metro on Sunday, the elder brother of the deceased, Mr Akanbi Taiwo, prayed the Ilero community not to abandon the family in the pursuit of justice.
He said this appeal came as the family was informed by security agencies that two suspects of Fulani extraction had been arrested and were billed to be arraigned in court.
Noting that the pursuit of the case would come with its financial cost, Akanbi noted that the deceased left behind his wife and two children, who were only managing themselves financially to commit limited funds to pursue the case.
The Oyo State Command Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Adewale Osifeso, in a conversation with our correspondent on Sunday, said the police had begun an investigation into the case, promising updates accordingly.
Also speaking with TheNigerian Metro, the community head, the Elero of Ilero, Oba Waliu Oyedele, sued for calm from residents of Ilero, adding that the police should be allowed to continue with their investigation into the matter.
He said the community also had a security committee headed by a retired police officer and expressed optimism that those behind the killing would be apprehended.
