Femi Falana has been hired by Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti to represent him in court after he allegedly assaulted a police officer in Lagos state. The human rights attorney has agreed to represent him in this matter in exchange.
Femi Falana reportedly revealed this information on Sunday, May 14. He continued by saying that the singer has sufficient justification.
He stated:
“He has briefed me, and I am his attorney. He most certainly has proof. He has dealt with the police before, so this is not the first time.
Remember that on Saturday a video of the singer punching a policeman on the Third Mainland Bridge went viral?
Usman Baba, the Inspector-General of Police, then gave the singer’s arrest the go-ahead. The IG also mandated a prompt and thorough investigation into the immediate and underlying cause(s) of the alleged assault as well as the prosecution of the suspect in accordance with the findings.
Fela, the singer’s father, was represented by Falana during his protests against the Nigerian government, which led to his own arrest in 1993.
