FG allocates N23bn for 2024 fiscal year to upkeep of aerodromes, airports, aviation navigational equipment

The Federal Government has allocated N23,085,000,000 for the 2024 fiscal year to the upkeep of aerodromes, airports, and aviation navigational equipment.

From this amount, N20.9 billion was set aside specifically for the restoration of aerodromes and airports, while N2.1 billion was set aside for the restoration of aviation navigational equipment.

Included in the 2024 Appropriations Bill, the number, which is part of the FG’s executive proposal, also sets aside more than N63.3 billion for the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development.

The Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria would receive N5.5 billion, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau would receive N4.8 billion, and the Nigerian Meteorological Agency would receive N131 billion in addition to the N39.8 billion earmarked for the ministry.

Additional information about the budget showed that, among other things, the aviation ministry and its agencies would be spending more than N1.3 billion on welfare benefits, athletic events, and refreshments and meals.

The ministry intends to invest N1 billion in the expansion of Murtala Mohammed Airport’s wings D and E in Lagos and N2 billion in the construction of Aerospace University in Abuja as a continuous project.

Additionally, N60 million has been set aside for Namibia, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Russia, and Senegal’s ongoing Multilateral Air Service Agreement and Bilateral Aviation Safety Agreement. Among others are Israel, Pakistan, Iran, South Africa, Eritrea, Namibia, and Venezuela.
