The Federal Government has nominated 11 new Chief Medical Directors for federally funded medical facilities across the country.
This was revealed in a press statement signed by FMoH’s Director of Press, Patricia Deworitshe, and made accessible to our correspondent on Thursday.
According to the release, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Kachollom Daju, presented the new CMDs with letters of appointment for a four-year term beginning August 1, 2023.
Prof Nyandanti Yakub Wilberforce of the Federal Medical Centre, Hong, Adamawa State; Prof Issa Baba Awoye of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Buddo-Egba, Kwara State; Dr Umar Faruk Abdumajid of the Federal Medical Centre, Daura, Katsina State; Dr Muhammad Shittu Adamu of the Federal Medical Centre, Wase, Plateau; Prof Shuaibu Jauro Yah
Prof Mangwa Kortar – FMC, Makurdi, Benue State; Prof Robinson Chukwudi Onoh – Alex Ekwueme, Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakiliki, Ebonyi State; and Dr Nurudeen Isa – National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, Kano State are among the others.
Daju, on the other hand, entrusted the new CMDs with working as a team with the health workers and stakeholders to explore all essential avenues to develop a conducive work atmosphere and infrastructure targeted at providing high-quality healthcare services.
“It may be difficult, but there is no such thing as an insurmountable problem,” she says, “and your appointment demonstrates the trust that the Federal Government has placed in you.”
She asked them to apply their skills and wealth of experience gained over the years in their various health facilities, emphasizing that their performance will determine their tenure extension.
Daju told them that the ministry will provide the required assistance with the available resources to help them fulfill the hospital standard.
Dr Anugwu spoke on behalf of the newly appointed directors, thanking President Bola Tinubu and the ministry for considering them worthy of the appointment.
“We will do our best to improve the lot of our people, to justify the President’s and the Ministry’s trust in us,” she said. “We will put in what it takes to move the health care system in our facilities forward, we will not rest, we will move along with Mr. President’s vision and make sure that our people receive the best, we will not disappoint you.”
