The notion that Mohammed Usman, the country’s ambassador to the Republic of Niger, had been expelled was denied by the Federal Government on Saturday.

Francisca Omayuli, the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, pleaded with the public in a statement that was also signed by her to disregard such false information.

According to a statement, “the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been made aware of allegations circulating on social media that the Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Niger, H. E. Mohammed Usman, was expelled on Friday, August 25, 2023, and given 48 hours to leave the country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform anyone that this information is false and therefore to be disregarded.

The Federal Government of Nigeria issues a stern caution against the dissemination of inaccurate information that could damage the ongoing ECOWAS efforts to mediate the political impasse in Niger.
