Nigerians, according to First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, should look beyond the country’s current situation and see the bigger picture, which has light at the end of the tunnel.

She spoke in her office on Tuesday while receiving Wives of Service Chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police, led by Mrs. Oghogho Musa, wife of the Chief of Defence Staff and President of the Defence and Police Wives Association.

The First Lady assured that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration was doing everything possible to mitigate the effects of the fuel subsidy removal until the policy’s benefits became apparent.

She stated that her pet project, the ‘Renewed Hope Initiative’ (RHI), is also supporting the government in this regard, which is why she is seeking the support of the Service Chiefs’ wives.

“We will need your various Associations from time to time, at the very least to be able to reach out to women in your various barracks, to reassure them that we mean well for this country, and that they should be patient, and that whatever we can do to alleviate the subsidy, we believe there is always light at the end of the tunnel.”

“It is a greater Nigeria that we seek, and it is a legacy that our children and future generations will leave, a Nigeria in which we can relate better as Nigerians and also look for the good of this nation and the wealth of this country,” she said.

According to a press statement issued by her spokesperson, Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady also promised that the RHI would soon reach out to vulnerable widows of fallen military officers.

Mrs. Musa assured that the various Associations of Defence and Police Officers’ Wives are ready to collaborate with the Renewed Hope Initiative in all areas of its coverage, namely Agriculture, Education, Health, Economic Empowerment, and Social Investment.

She stated that this was significant because these are all areas of interest to all of the Associations.

The First Lady was then decorated as the Grand Matron of the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association, an honor bestowed upon her by the various associations’ constitutions.
