The attacks that its enforcement personnel are facing more frequently while performing their official responsibilities have been denounced by the Lagos State Building Control Agency.

Some LASBCA officials were recently attacked while conducting a normal monitoring exercise around Musical Village, Awolowo Road, in the state’s Ikorodu area, according to Mr. Gbolahan Oki, General Manager of LASBCA.

According to Oki, the authorities were taken captive for hours after being attacked with weapons and charms.

But he asserted that LASBCA would not back down from its mission to provide safe and secure buildings throughout the state, not even in the face of threats or harassment.

“These attackers took our personnel hostage for hours on end in addition to obstructing them. However, we won’t let these hooliganisms stop us from doing our jobs.

Fortunately, we were able to repel these strikes without suffering any damage. Because of their tenacity and promptness, our employees have been able to subdue their attackers and avert more serious outcomes. In an effort to guarantee that state facilities are secure and suitable for rehabilitation, we deal with these kinds of obstacles on a regular basis, Oki stated in a statement on Thursday.

Noting that incidents of harassment and attacks tended to jeopardize the agency’s monitoring activities and could potentially pose serious threats to the public, the LASBCA General Manager urged the public to comprehend and support the agency in its mission to curb the menace of building collapses throughout the state.
