In Oben, a town on the border of the states of Delta and Edo, rumored gunmen are believed to have abducted nine tourists.

On Friday night, an incident occurred along Jesse-Oben Road that left the neighborhood in a state of panic.

Mr. Obehe Adika, a hunter who claimed to have witnessed the incident, claimed that around 9 o’clock he heard gunshots and tyre screeching noises coming from the bush where he was hunting.

In addition, he said he witnessed the attack and kidnapping of passengers in a Toyota Hiace bus traveling to Delta State by a Hilux van loaded with armed men.

“I observed the gunmen dragging the victims. They (the gunmen) numbered five or six. Nine people were on board, and they departed in their van.

“Not even the driver was ignored. They all got taken. I was the one who alerted the community leader, who then organized youths to start a search, but they haven’t been located yet,” he continued.

One of the victims was reportedly the unnamed 24-year-old daughter of a newspaper vendor.

The unnamed distraught vendor was reportedly contacted by the kidnappers, who demanded a N10 million ransom.

Due to his inability to raise the money, the vendor has requested assistance from Governors of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, and his counterpart in Edo State, Godwin Obaseki.

When contacted, Edafe Bright, the public relations officer for the Delta State Police, stated on Saturday that the Edo State Police Command was in charge of the region where the incident took place.

However, Chidi Nwabuzor, the PPRO for Edo State, stated that the incident was being investigated and that the passengers would soon be saved and the offenders would be caught.
