Gunmen kill 3 oil palm workers in Edo

Gunmen have reportedly killed three staff members of Okomu Oil Palm Company PLC while working on the company’s plantation in Benin, Edo State.  

It was gathered that incident happened on Monday at Okumu community in Ovia South East Local Government Area of the state.

It was learnt that they were working on the company’s  plantation when the gunmen emerged from the bush and killed the victims.

The company’s Public Relations Officer, Fidelis Olise, confirmed the incident, saying the killing.

According to him, the incident has been reported to the the police and investigation on the matter has commenced.

“I can confirm to you that three of our staff were killed by gunmen on Monday while they were working on our plantation,” he said.

The state Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, who also confirmed the incident, said operatives had been drafted to the area to forestall a repeat of the attack.

“The attackers were from a neighbouring state and efforts were on to arrest the culprits and bring them to book.

“Preliminary findings showed that the gunmen came from the creek in a neighbouring state, which I would not like to mention. The attack is shocking,” he said.

The CP also said that the police were working with the management of Okomu to perfect ways of making the environment safer for its staff at all times.

“We have deployed more men to the area to forestall a repeat of the incident and police in conjunction with Okomu is working to ensure that the culprits are arrested,” he added.
