On Sunday, tragedy struck the Okanla community in the Irepodun Local Government Area of Osun State when armed men raided the palace of Olokanla of Okanla, assassinated an applicant for admission named Ibrahim Qudus, and then set the castle on fire.

Jimoh Qadri, the deceased’s uncle, claimed that the attackers were headed by a man only known as Naim, who was the only one of the group to not cover his face throughout the attack.

Qadri, who was unable to provide an explanation for the attack, claimed that the attackers first attacked his home and encountered his absence before moving on to the residence of his late father, Oba Jimoh Adigun, the Olokanla of Okanla, which he utilised as a palace before passing away.

He stated, “I wasn’t home, but my wife called to tell me that about 20 gunmen had invaded my house in the Okanla neighbourhood early on Sunday morning. She claimed that while they were all wearing masks, my wife was able to see one of them carrying Naim since he had his face exposed. The attackers looked throughout the home in their pursuit of me.

The building was vandalised after they failed to locate me, and they then went to my family’s home, which my late father, Olokanla of Okanla, used as his castle. There they encountered Qudus, my eldest brother’s son, who had been living in Ibadan until lately when he returned home to apply for a university admissions position after taking the UTME.

“They killed him, put his body in my car that was parked on the property, and set the car on fire. They also started a fire in the palace. I’m not aware of the motive for the attack. But it’s possible that there’s a link between it and the local land dispute. The family is begging with the security organisations to make sure that the criminals are caught.

When contacted, Yemisi Opalola, a spokesman for the Osun Police Command, said that Kehinde Longe, the commissioner of police, had visited the crime scene and added that additional officers had been sent to the area.

“Someone was burned by a car in the Okanla neighbourhood, which is near Ifon and Ilobu. To prevent additional law and order collapse, we have sent our personnel to the area. The Police Commissioner has visited the location, according to Opalola.
