The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has set an agenda for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The association prioritized the reorganization of security architecture in order to secure Nigeria.
It also demanded the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as well as police reforms and economic revival.
According to HURIWA’s national coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, Nigerians expect Tinubu to immediately replace the current crop of service chiefs.
The group urged the new president to replace the current heads of security agencies with new blood and ideas to protect the country from banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and herdsmen aggression, among other things.
HURIWA also asked President Tinubu to mediate peace with all secessionist agitators in the country, claiming that no one will want to leave Nigeria if all parts of the country are included in governance, one of the main ideas rejected by Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

President Tinubu promised to govern Nigeria impartially, according to the constitution and the rule of law, and to defend the country from terror and all forms of criminality that threaten the peace and stability of the country and its subregion in his inaugural speech on May 29 in Abuja.
Onwubiko stated that President Tinubu should immediately settle in and get to work because Nigeria is already in an economic and security crisis.
“Among other things, the new president must prioritize security, reorganizing the heads of the armed forces, DSS, and police, police reforms, and state police that are not controlled by governors.” In strategic security appointments, he should avoid nepotism.
“We demand a national truth and reconciliation commission, similar to the one established in South Africa.” “We also demand the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu and an end to all armed groups’ hostilities in the South East,” he said.
