Franklin Akinyosuyi, 26, confessed to using a human skull as a bath for a month after being found in possession of one at his Ondo town, Ondo State, flat.
The photographer and boutique owner claimed that a herbalist advised him to take a bath with a skull at one in the morning on every Thursday to increase his sales.
When Akinyosuyi and his cohorts were paraded at the state police headquarters in Akure on Saturday, he talked in an interview with journalists there.
The suspect was detained after his landlord reported him to the police for last week’s discovery of a human skull in the suspect’s Eleworo neighbourhood flat.
The offender confessed, saying, “I am a photographer and I also operate a store. My uncle brought me to a herbalist last year. In response to my explanation that my business wasn’t doing well, he requested N200,000 to create a concoction for me, which I paid in full within three weeks.
In November of last year, he phoned me to come pick it up once he finished. Every Thursday at exactly 1am, he gave me the order to take a bath with a human skull. Despite using it for a month, I saw no improvement in my business. I had to phone the herbalist to request a refund of my money.
“I also requested that he come and pick up the human skull, but he declined. Despite this, he had already handed me N20,000 and had begun refunding my money.
“I made the decision to go dispose of it that fateful day, so I dropped it in my garden. Unfortunately, before I could come back, my landlord’s kids saw it, told their dad, and they called the police. The herbalist said he paid someone to get the human head after we were detained.
According to the state police public relations officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, five people are allegedly implicated in the case as suspects.
While three suspects have been taken into custody, two remain at large, according to her.
“Further questioning and research resulted in the arrest of one Oyegoke Dare, an evangelist who gave the suspect the skull and other fetish items. One Oyelade Sarafa, a herbalist who also admitted to helping the suspect obtain the skull from one Asekun (a vigilante) in Ikirun, was also apprehended. Two further individuals who have been discussed in connection with the case remain on the loose,” she added.
