On Saturday, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission said that there were no files in any of its offices across the nation that implicated President Bola Tinubu and a few of his close associates.

The Department for State Services reportedly raided one of the commission’s offices and removed documents that implicated the president and his close associates, which prompted the commission’s response.

The ICPC’s spokesperson, Azuka Ogugua, called the report baseless and urged Nigerians to dismiss it in a statement that The PUNCH was able to get.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission issued a statement that said, “The attention of the ICPC and CCB has been called to a false news item by an online publication, headed “Secret Police, DSS Carts Away Files Implicating President Buhari, Close Aides from ICPC, CCB.”

The Commission denies the allegations in the report and makes it clear that neither its national office nor any of its regional offices had any files that would have implicated President Tinubu or his close associates. The public should dismiss the reported removal of such fictitious files because it is unfounded.

The Commission is “seriously troubled by irresponsible practice and non-adherence to the tenets of the journalism profession by some media outlets,” despite the fact that it does not contest the media’s responsibility to enlighten the public.
