In the Idu district of the Federal Capital Territory, homes intended for internally displaced people (IDPs) were under inspection on Tuesday by Dr. Betta Edu, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

As part of initiatives to alleviate multifaceted poverty in the nation, Edu stated, one- and two-bedroom houses would be constructed to host internally displaced people (IDPs) in states.

Each house will cost N3 million to build, with the intended recipients providing direct labor, according to the ministry.

At least five million displaced and vulnerable households in Nigeria would have shelter thanks to the Tinubu administration’s commitment.

“Recall that the federal government recently approved the humanitarian trust fund, which is composed of 70% contributions from individuals and donor agencies and 30% government funding.”

A similar effort for internally displaced people has started in Benue, according to the ministry.

Edu stated, “This project had its groundbreaking in Benue, and as we speak, they have finished clearing about 10 hectares for the construction of 40 houses.”

According to her, the buildings are simple to erect, which will expedite the process of providing IDPs in various parts of Nigeria, including Borno, Zamfara, Adamawa, Yobe, and other regions, with homes.
