Less than 24 hours after gunmen attacked two communities in Plateau State and killed no fewer than 10 persons, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the redeployment of the Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Hassan Yabanet.
Bandits had reportedly killed 10 persons in two separate attacks in Bokkos and Mangu Local Government Areas of the state.
The attacks that occurred in Mandung-Mushu and Kopnanle villages on Friday night also left several persons injured, with property, including the houses of the villagers, set ablaze by the gunmen.
The Chairman of Bokkos Cultural Development Council, Farmasum Fuddang, confirmed the killings in a statement on Saturday.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the fresh attacks in the affected communities, describing them as a setback to peace efforts in the state.
But in a statement issued in Jos on Saturday, the Inspector General of Police said that Yabanet, who was deployed to Plateau State barely one month ago as Commissioner of Police, had been removed.
