In order to improve the state’s cattle business, the current administration of Enugu State, led by Governor Peter Mbah, plans to renovate the State Veterinary and Veterinary Investigations Center, which has been abandoned in Achi, in the Oji River local government area.

During a facility/inspection tour of the school on Wednesday, October 30, Dr. Patrick Uburu, the state commissioner for agriculture, gave the guarantee.

He was joined by a group of engineers from the state ministry of agriculture as well as Hon. Osita Ezeh, who represents the Oji River seat in the state house of assembly.

He bemoaned how the state’s past administrations had neglected and abandoned the institution, causing its numerous structures to deteriorate.

According to him, the state administration is eager to revitalize the institution so that its output will be crucial to the current agricultural revolution that Governor Peter Mbah is igniting.

He told Dr. Ugwu Johnsoon Ugo, the school’s principal, seven days to deliver a thorough report to his office outlining the steps necessary to revitalize the institution.

Dr. Patrick Uburu, the state commissioner for Enugu, instructed the engineers who accompanied him on the facilities tour to assess the pace of deterioration of the school’s physical buildings so that swift action could be taken.

Commissioner Uburu, Hon. Osita Eze, and others were shown around the administrative building and the student residences during the visit, where they noticed numerous deteriorating buildings.

They also looked at the buildings that were built for the school’s pig, poultry, sheep, and goat clinics, among other uses, but are currently underutilized and neglected.

State Commissioner for Agriculture Dr. Patrick Ubulu and his team’s facility/inspection tour of the Enugu State Veterinary School and Veterinary Investigation Center was a culmination of Hon. Osita Eze’s state assembly plea for the school’s revitalization in order to strengthen the state’s agricultural industry.

Hon. Osita Ezeh reaffirmed that the school, which was first founded as Achi Farm School, played a significant role in the now-defunct Eastern region government by graduating veterinary technicians who were adept at expanding the livestock industry beyond the Eastern region at the time, while introducing a motion to that effect before his colleagues during a plenary session of the state assembly on October 10.

Recall that his coworkers agreed with his prayers, saying that the school’s output would greatly benefit Governor Mbah’s initiative to promote animal husbandry in the state. The bill passed its first reading as a result.

The strength of Hon. Osita Ezeh’s bill, according to Dr. Uburu, prevented his team from visiting. He promised to expedite the school’s renovation efforts, as he had instructed Dr. Ugwu Johnsoon, the principal, to provide a thorough report to his office within a week.

Commissioner Uburu also promised that his ministry would address the issue of school graduates not being granted licenses to practice and be acknowledged when they apply for postsecondary education.

In response to the grievance of Mr. Echezona Onuzuluike, a former pupil of the school, he provided the promise.

Mr. Onuzuluike Echezona vehemently bemoaned the fact that, despite graduating in 2018, all of his attempts to obtain his license had been unsuccessful.

According to him, the issue of graduates not receiving licenses began in 2015 for reasons that the ministry is only aware of.

Speaking on behalf of the host community, Mr. Ofoezie Gilbert praised Governor Mbah for saving the school and said that his community will work with the state government whenever help is required.
