INEC can’t nullify an election that has been announced – Senator Abbo

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is prohibited by the Electoral Act 2022 from declaring the collated results of the governor of Adamawa State election invalid, according to Senator Ishaku Abbo of the Adamawa North Senatorial District.

Speaking on Monday’s episode of Channels Television’s “Sunrise Daily,” he said that the Electoral Act of 2022’s provisions made the electoral body’s announcement irrelevant.
“INEC lacks the authority to annul an election that has already been declared.

“Elections have been called; they are now beyond their control. The REC has made the result public. Section 149 also operates in addition to Section 65.

The Electoral Act of 2022’s Section 149 reads as follows: “Notwithstanding any other provisions of this Act, any defect or error arising from any actions taken by a Commission official with respect to any notice, form, or document made or given or other things done by the official in pursuance of the provisions of the Constitution or of this Act, or any rules made thereunder, shall remain valid, unless otherwise challenged and declared invalid by a competent court of law or

Senator Abbo also asserted that it was pointless to contest an election outcome that had already been declared, and he charged the state’s ruling party of electoral fraud.
“You cannot evaluate a result that they informed us of since it has already been announced. They claimed that the fact that Fufore had been announced prevented them from reviewing it.

“The previous elections were contentious; we prepared for a free and fair election, but the PDP did not prepare for a free and fair election; instead, they prepared to bypass the elections and to compromise some specific officials,” he said.
