5,196 employees nationwide have received promotions from the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Journalists received a bulletin with this information on Thursday.

According to a breakdown of the numbers, “54 Assistant Directors on GL 15 were promoted to Deputy Director Cadre on GL 16, while 55 Deputy Directors on Grade Level 16 were promoted to the rank of Directors on Grade Level 17..”

Additionally, the commission announced that “the majority of the promotion affected 4,749 officers between GL 7 and 13, while 338 officers on GL 14 were promoted to Assistant Directors on GL 15.”

Four Commission directors were instructed to take terminal leave in the interim.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, said that the decision was made in accordance with a directive issued by the Federal Government through a circular dated July 27, 2023.

All directors who have worked for the government for eight years or more are required under the regulation to retire.

According to Olumekun, two of the directors who went on terminal leave were employed as administrative secretaries at the state offices and the other two as heads of departments at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

He did, however, point out that, “as clarified in Circular MH 7205/T31 dated September 7 2023,” clinical officers in the medical cadre were excluded from the Federal Government Retirement Policy.
